Muhammad Ali, nicknamed “The Greatest”, a retired American boxer, is Widely-seen as the best sportsman of all time. The Greatest was crowned “Sportsman of the Century” by Sports Illustrated, with the World Heavyweight Boxing championship three times, the North America Boxing Federation championship and an Olympic gold medal. He has brought grace to the most uncompromising of sports and transcended the sporting world. He is really one of the truly great figures in sports history. He was involved in some historic boxing matches, among of which were three with Joe Frazier and one with George Foreman. However, besides his popular achievements and contribution, interesting information about his life may be little known. On the occasion of his 70th birthday, let’s look at interesting facts about the greatest heavyweight of all time.

 

Muhammad was kept sidelined in the sport for refusing military service from 1967 to 1970. Aligning himself with the National of Island, his actions in refusing military service made him a lightning rod for controversy.

Ali refused to be conscripted into the U.S. military, based on his opposition to the Vietnam War and his religious beliefs.

Muhammad was first trained as a professional by Archie Moore.

In 1962, Ali failed the mental aptitude test.

In 1964, Ali recorded album “I Am The Greatest” for Epic Records.

Muhammad was the first man to knock down George Foreman, Sonny Liston, and Chuck Wepner.

Ali has portrayed himself in four different motion pictures.

Ali was presented with the Presidential Citizens Medal by President George W. Bush in 2005.

Ali has been married four times. He married to Sonji Roi, Belnda Boyd, Veronica Porsche, and Yolanda Ali. He has seven daughters and two sons.
