Money Or God? “In the End” it (Money) Doesn’t Even Matter (Inspired by Linkin Park)

There’s a great deal of folly in saving now in order to live later, certainly as far as the out-of-balance approach some people take in living their lives. The generations old approach of working hard right up until retirement age to enjoy the (short) spoils of retirement, has not only made a return it’s morphed into ‘work your guts out to retire even earlier,’ and greed drives it.

Mortgages and material possessions are acquired at break-neck speed for these people–and then there’s the midlife heart attack or stroke (or some other health condition) to look forward to. It may seem an exaggeration but how many spend most of their lives away from their families to earn their squillions?

Linkin Park have nailed this prospect in the chorus of their haunting song In the End. This is how it goes:

I tried so hard
And got so far
But in the end
It doesn’t even matter
I had to fall
To lose it all
But in the end
It doesn’t even matter

For mine, people will continue their own sweet, unbalanced way of greed and acquisition-at-any-cost until they “fall, to lose it all.” And this is after possibly decades of getting it wrong–how demoralizing.

Jesus talks about remaining alert and ready in Matthew 24; none of us knows when the Lord will come, only the Father (v. 36). He will come in the night like a thief (v. 43). The event and circumstances of our deaths will always be a mystery.

Indeed, the Parable of the Rich Fool (Luke 12:13-21) propounds this most powerful truth. The rich farmer produced an amazing crop and was troubled for a place to put his ‘abundance.’ In tearing down his small barns to build bigger ones his plans bargained on living perpetually–and certainly not dying.

He didn’t account for the ever-present possibility of his death. “God said to him, ‘You fool! This very night your life is being demanded of you. And the things you have prepared, whose will they be?'” -Luke 12:20 (NRSV). His greed simply stored up wealth for someone else. That’s the potential lot for those not rich toward God.

There’s a series of proverbs alluding to these very issues. “The wealth of the rich is their fortified city; they imagine it an unscalable wall” -Proverbs 18:11 (NIV). How easily we can be fooled into choosing money over God (as it’s either one or the other, not both) thinking that we buy some kind of protection. In the end it crumbles like stacked cards. It doesn’t even matter. Money, in this way, is the falsest pretense.

If we combine two more we get a fascinating picture: “Good people leave an inheritance for their children’s children, but a sinner’s wealth is stored up for the righteous… Whoever increases wealth by taking interest or profit from the poor amasses it for another, who will be kind to the poor” -Proverbs 13:22 & 28:8 (TNIV). Greed, here, is the confounding glue of folly. All that hard work to build a dominion–and for what? At least the booty will go somewhere it’s actually needed!

So, what’s the wise thing to do in life around acquisitions?

Clearly it’s wise to buy a home and provide for our families, planning for a future that ensures we can enjoy as comfortable a life as God allows. But there has to be a balance in the swinging pendulum. We have to live today, for others, and for ourselves–but ultimately for God. This is investing in a relationship dependent on God–which is no easy matter. This requires much commitment and trial and error in itself. People shun dependency in our prevalent culture.

The cliche “life’s a journey” is so worn through, but it remains true. Nothing worthwhile ever comes easy. But, the real fruit belongs to, and with, and in, God.

Money or God? Live now or later? Both of these are easy choices. But it’s got to be a daily, moment by moment choice; choices congruent with our personal values.

None of us I’m sure truly wants to end life whistling the chorus of the Linkin Park song as a life epitaph.

Queens Of The Stone Age Tickets: The Band Was Active In 2010 Doing Some Touring And Releasing Cds

Queens of the Stone Age is an American hard rock band from Palm Desert, California, United States, formed in 1997. Since its inception, the band’s line-up has included founding member Josh Homme (lead vocals, guitar), with its current line-up including longtime members Troy Van Leeuwen (guitar, lap steel, backing vocals) and Joey Castillo (drums, percussion), alongside Michael Shuman (bass guitar, backing vocals) and Dean Fertita (keyboards, guitar).

Formed after the demise of Homme’s previous band, Kyuss, Queens of the Stone Age developed a style of riff-oriented, heavy music. Their sound has since evolved to incorporate a variety of different styles and influences, including working with ZZ Top member Billy Gibbons and steady contributor Mark Lanegan, both of whom have contributed influences from genres such as blues and grunge.

Plans of recording a follow-up to Era Vulgaris were mentioned in 2009 and 2010, but recording ended up not starting until January of 2011.

During 2009 and 2010, band members worked on side projects during the down time. Troy Van Leeuwen started up a new band, Sweethead. Joey Castillo played for Eagles of Death Metal on their Heart On tour. Bassist Michael Shuman became the new drummer and singer in the band Mini Mansions, while Dean Fertita became the guitarist/keyboardist for Jack White’s side project, The Dead Weather. Lastly, Josh Homme helped form the new supergroup Them Crooked Vultures with Dave Grohl of the Foo Fighters and John Paul Jones of Led Zeppelin. They released their debut self-titled album on November 17, 2009.

The band was active somewhat in 2010, doing some touring and releasing a two CD deluxe edition of Rated R on August 3, 2010. This edition featured the original CD along with six B-sides and live recordings from the band’s Reading performance in 2000.
According to keyboardist Dean Fertita, Queens of the Stone Age are set to begin recording their new album in January 2011. There is also to be a remastered version of their first self titled album early 2011.They have also stated that they will be playing the Australian festival Soundwave in 2011.Musical style.

Throughout its career the band has been described as hard rock, alternative rock, art rock, heavy metal, and several other genres. Queens of the Stone Age have also been labeled as Stoner Rock, but Homme himself rejects the term, saying, “If I had a choice, I would take that away. Stoner rock, to me, is like saying the crucial element is drugs. And I don’t believe that that’s the case.

I’m not an AA guy or anything, but at the same time I don’t need any of that to make music.”.He also often describes the band style as “robot rock” referring to the band’s solid and repetitive riffs in the band’s song structures. Homme has described the band’s self-titled debut album as driving music, angular and recorded dry.

Rolling Stone magazine also noted a “connection between American meat-and-potatoes macho rock of the early 1970s, like Blue Cheer and Grand Funk Railroad, and the precision-timing drones in German rock of the same period”.The band’s following album – Rated R – contained a wider variety of instruments, several recording guests and lead vocals shared by Homme, Oliveri and Lanegan.

Homme has also commented that “Our first record announced our sound. This one added that we are different and weird.” The band continued to experiment on their third album Songs for the Deaf, which also featured a line-up including three lead vocalists, many guest appearances and wide range of instrumentation including horn and string sections.

Lullabies to Paralyze was in comparison to the band’s previous releases a darker record, lacking the band’s distinct “driving” sound, much due to the departure of long time member Nick Oliveri, with lyrics inspired by The Brothers Grimm folk and fairy tales. The band also almost exclusively used semi hollow body guitars during the recording of the record.

With Era Vulgaris the band continued to evolve their signature sound with more dance-oriented elements and electronic influences, while Homme has gone back to being the only vocalist in the band and uses more distinct vocal melodies.

See King Tut Before He Flies Back to Egypt

Even if you know nothing about Ancient Egypt, it’s hard not to be completely mesmerised by the wonderful King Tut exhibition that is currently on show in New York City. Located in a gallery just off the esteemed Times Square, a visit to this memorable exhibition will ensure that you can combine a rewarding cultural experience amidst all the shopping and Broadway show-hopping you’ll be doing.King Tutankhamen was a ruler of Ancient Egypt who ascended the throne at just nine years of age. Determined to right the wrongs of the Pharaoh before him, a ruler who dictated that all of Egypt’s many gods be ignored in favour of worshipping one – Aten, the Sun god – King Tut set about reversing these laws and opening the minds of the Egyptians once more to allow them to freely worship each and every god that they believed ruled the universe.Even going as far to change his name from Tutankhaten to the name he has been known by for centuries – Amun, who was another god that was a focus of Egyptian theology at the time – the young king made great changes to the country, building countless temples of worship in honour of the gods and appeasing the people in ways his predecessor had not. His rule was a happy one until his sudden death in 1323 BC, when he was around eighteen or nineteen years of age. Much speculation has followed his death, of which the true cause is unknown, though there are clues that he may have died accidentally from an infected broken leg. However, no conclusive evidence has surfaced. The exhibition collects many of the fascinating objects discovered by British archaeologist Howard Carter back on that famous event in 1922. From awe-inspiring sarcophaguses to mesmerising jewellery worn by the king himself, you’ll be taken on a trip through the ages to learn in detail all about the life of the boy king, his people and his land. At the end of the exhibition, you’ll even get a chance to see a replica of King Tut’s body itself – which is a sight you’ll never forget even hours later when in the different world of your New York hotels.Tutankhamen and the Golden Age of the Pharaohs will be appearing at the Discovery Times Square Exposition for a limited time only, so don’t miss out on this once in a lifetime experience.

Jeff Beck Tickets – Still Bringing Up Tons Of ’emotion & Commotion’

He loves to stir up commotion, and now Jeff Beck is doing so with his aptly titled set and tour Emotion & Commotion. The veteran guitar slinger who really knows how to sling those chords recently added a few more dates to his headlining jaunt for April and June. Throughout the tour, which sees opening act in Grammy winner Joss Stone, Beck will make an appearance at Eric Clapton’s Crossroad Guitar Festival and Bonnaroo Festival in June.

The outing, which jumps out April 16th in San Francisco, will hit big city arenas like Los Angeles’ Nokia Theatre, Houston’s Verizon Wireless Theater, St. Louis’ Fox, Boston’s Bank of America Pavilion and Atlanta’s Chastain Park, among others. There isn’t a moment to miss for the spring/summer Commotion Tour, so get Jeff Beck tickets now from

Emotion & Commotion was recorded in Beck’s home country with producers Steve Lipson and Trevor Horn at the helm. The album, which is due out in April, also included session work by collaborators Vinnie Colaiuta on drums, Jason Rebello on keys and Tal Wilkenfeld on bass. Additionally, Emotions & Commotions features a 64-piece orchestra, while two singles – “I Put a Spell on You” and “There’s No Other Me” – feature Beck’s opener, Joss Stone, on vocals. The set comes at a perfect time in terms of commercial exposure, as his single “A Day in the Life” recently earned Beck his fifth Grammy for Best Rock Instrumental Performance and the single is also featured on last year’s Performing this Week…Live at Ronnie Scott’s.

Beck is fresh off his co-headlining tour with Eric Clapton, and many critics thought that Beck outshined his Yardbirds counterpart (he replaced Clapton in the legendary rock group in ’65). The Wallington, England native continues to see fame years after he debuted his sound. “For my parents, who lived through the war, music was a source of comfort to them. Life was tense and music helped them forget about their troubles,” he said on his website. “I’m sure that made an impression on me.” The guitarist we know today first started after a stint with London’s Wimbledon Art College.

Amazingly enough, even though Beck had played guitar for years his first work with a real musical outfit was with the Yardbirds in 1965. However, just two years later Beck left the group to form his own band – the Jeff Beck Group – which released two albums together (Truth and Beck- Ola)before disbanding. Though the outfit remained unsteady for the next decade, they released two more albums, 1971’s Rough and Ready and 1972’s The Jeff Beck Group.

Beck’s guitar expertise didn’t limit him to just one genre, and miraculously enough after finishing up a rock album with the trio Tim Bogert and Carmine Appice, Beck turned to jazz-fusion. The instrumental sets demolished any stereotypes experts might have on Beck’s musical intentions, as the albums Blow by Blow and Wired remain some of the best-selling instrumental pieces of all time.

Beck continued to record in the studio, returning with 1980’s There and Back, 1985’s Flash and 1989’s Jeff Beck’s Guitar Shop with Terry Bozzio and Toy Hymas. He has continued to release albums sporadically through the most recent decades, retaining his status as one of rock music’s most valuable guitarists.

Akoya Pearl Jewelry

Akoya pearls are salt-water pearls, highly prized for their perfectly round shapes, which are valued in the pearl industry. Akoyas were the first spherical cultured pearls. Pinctada Fucata is the name of the species and they have always been abundant in Japanese ocean waters. These oysters are smaller than other pearl oysters. When fully grown these oysters measure about 3 to 5 inches in diameter. Their pearls are usually white or creme colored. Highly lustrous, hard and perfectly round pearls are common characteristics of this type.

These akoya pearls range in sizes from 2mm to 9mm. Unlike some larger species, akoya oysters can accept multiple nuclei, which is a bead made from the shells of freshwater mollusks. These beads form the central core of the cultured pearl. The akoya oyster can hold as many as five bead nuclei at a time. The growth period for the Japanese akoya, cultured pearl is eight months to two years. When harvested, these lovely sea pearls make breathtaking strands of the highest quality.

Akoya Pearls are strikingly brilliant and these pearls reflect a rich orient that sets it apart from other pearls. We have peacock black akoya pearl necklace that sparkle like midnight stars on a tropical island. These strands come in lengths of 18 to 22 inches. These artistically graduated pearls ranging from 6.5mm to 7.0mm are stunning and affordable. Golden akoya pearls make heads turn.

Another great feature about akoya pearls is that they are easy to match for strands. These pearls are very consistent in shape and size, very round and brilliantly lustrous. White akoya stud earrings are common in most pearl stores along with classical white necklace strands.

You will find akoya cultured pearls in a variety of jewelry items: multi-strand bracelets, pendants, single and cluster rings; stud, drop, and cluster earrings; brooches, cufflinks, and tie tacks. Most cultured akoya pearls are strung into necklaces.

As long as there is a demand for traditional and affordable necklaces strung with medium-size uniform cultured pearls, the cultured akoya pearl will remain a crucial par of the jewelry scene. Since 1996, the Japanese akoya industry has expanded their quantity and quality of these pearls and there is still a demand for quality akoya cultured pearls in the world market today.
