Why Life Coaching Programs Should Give Me A Team Buddy

As the author of The Last Year of Your Life and the founder of The Last Year of Your Life 52-week Experience, I have written a series of short articles to answer the many questions I get asked about how to live your life to the fullest.
In this article I answer a question that I get asked a lot, and that is, ‘Why do you need to have a team buddy?’

If you are working through executive life coaching, or any type of life purpose coaching – you need a team buddy to get the most out of it – to hold you accountable.

So an important aspect or our life coaching programs is that you are allocated a team buddy.

If you are part of the Mastermind Team I will assign you a team buddy.
And if you are doing the online program you can also register to get a team buddy. And I really recommend that you have a team buddy.

Why? Because, well, why do people get married? Why? Because the experience of relationships is what brings the richness into life and there are things that your team buddy is going to reveal to you about yourself and about life that you never could get in any other way.

I like to think that the last year of your life is a gift from the universe and every single person is part of that gift.
When you think about the immensity of time and space, the likelihood that you and an other person will be taking the last year of your life experience at the same time. Astronomically impossible odds, so when you get assigned to a person as your team buddy — well, how special is that?

They must be there for a purpose. They must have been put there in that moment in time and space just for you by the universe.

And that is why as your life purpose coach I want you to have a team buddy, to get that gift, to get that perspective, to get that richness.

Living life to the fullest does take time and effort. I have been Living The Last Year of Your Life for the past three years now and it has been the most incredible experience in my life.
I know that you’ll get a lot out of it too, and I want you to do it because in The Last Year of Your Life, anything is possible.

Guitar Delonge – 7 Tips to Play Guitar Like Blink 182

Tom Delonge’s guitar skills may not be the most impressive thing on the planet, but he does have enough skills to become a punk rock icon. Because of Blink 182’s catchy music, they’ve played hundreds of shows for thousands of dedicated fans.

But what should a beginning guitarist do in order to master the skills that Tom Delonge has? Here are 7 tips that can hone your skills into a rock guitarist.

1. Learn to play in different tunings.

Even though Delonge’s guitar parts are usually played in standard tuning, quite a few are played in other tunings like drop ‘d’. Check out other tunings to really expand your knowledge of the strings and the notes on each fret.

2. Use a guitar with a thinner neck.

You may have noticed that punk rock bands usually have Fenders and other similar-made guitars because of the thin necks for faster playing action. Buy a thin-necked guitar so that you can increase your playing speed to bang out those fast chords.

3. Become an adequate player with rhythm and lead riffs.

Tom Delonge is a decent guitarist because he’s forced to mix lead and rhythm riffs in each song, being the only guitarist in the band. In order to really get a feel for playing like Blink 182, you need to learn chords and catchy lead sections for your guitar arsenal.

4. Master pull-offs and hammer-ons.

Two of the most common guitar skills in punk rock music for lead riffs are pull-offs and hammer-ons. These are fairly easy skills to master and they’ll make you look like a pro when you’re on stage.

5. Get a hold of a guitar tab book from one of the Blink 182 albums.

Wouldn’t it be great to know exactly what Tom Delonge was playing when he recorded on the Blink 182 albums? Well you can!

There’s a guitar tablature book for each album that tells every single note that he played. Go out and learn what Blink 182 was really doing in their songs.

6. Use a mixture of palm-muted and open notes.

Being able to showcase diversity in your playing is a big part of playing guitar. Try switching up your playing style between palm-mutes and open notes when you’re playing guitar songs.

7. Practice Blink 182 songs in order to get the feel of how Tom Delonge writes and plays.

The more you’re familiar with how Tom Delonge plays his guitar, the closer you’ll be to mastering his skills. See if you can play through an entire album by Blink 182 without it causing too many problems.

Becoming familiar with how Tom Delonge performs and plays is the real key to learning his trade. Try to develop your own style as you follow these tips so that maybe you can be the one on stage some day.

4th of July – Healing Our Country

When we gather with our family and friends this 4th of July are we remembering what or who we are really celebrating?

I had to take a moment before this great celebration to remember what 4th of July is really about and all that we need to be thankful for about this historical event.

Many of us remember from history classes that on the 4th of July, 1776, the Declaration of Independence was approved by the Continental Congress, setting the 13 colonies on the road to freedom as a sovereign nation. The United States was born and as always, this most American of holidays will be marked by parades, fireworks and backyard barbecues across the country.

I’d like us to take a look at what some of the founding Fathers and those that signed the Declaration of Independence had to say about what they believed to be the ultimate importance in their lives and over the United States of America:

John Adams – 2nd US President and signer of the Declaration of Independence – “Suppose a nation in some distant region should take the Bible for their only law book, and every member should regulate his conduct by the precepts there exhibited! Every member would be obliged in conscience, to temperance, frugality, and industry; to justice, kindness, and charity towards his fellow men; and to piety, love, and reverence toward Almighty God . . . What a utopia, what a paradise would this region be.”

Thomas Jefferson – 3rd US President, drafter and signer of the Declaration of Independence – “I am a real Christian – that is to say, a disciple of the doctrines of Jesus Christ.”

John Hancock – 1st signer of the Declaration of Independence – “Resistance to tyranny becomes the Christian and social duty of each individual . . . Continue steadfast and, with a proper sense of your dependence on God, nobly defend those rights which heaven gave, and no man ought to take from us.”

Samual Adams – signer of the Declaration of Independence and Father of the American Revolution – “And as it is our duty to extend our wishes to the happiness of the great family of man, I conceive that we cannot better express ourselves than by humbly supplicating the Supreme Ruler of the world that the rod of tyrants may be broken to pieces, and the oppressed made free again; that wars may cease in all the earth, and that the confusions that are and have been among nations may be overruled by promoting and speedily bringing on that holy and happy period when the kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ may be everywhere established, and all people everywhere willingly bow to the scepter of Him who is Prince of Peace.”

Wow – this was just a snippet of quotes form some of our founding forefathers and those that signed the Declaration of Independence. I truly wonder what they would think of our country right now if they were still alive. I would have to believe they would very quickly come to the conclusion that our country needs healing.

Think about this as you gather with friends and family this July 4th, remember we are celebrating what God has done, how He has set us apart as a nation to follow Him and His ways, apply Godly principles to our everyday lives – to love one another as He has loved us. During this great celebration we are to give God great thanks, honor and praise for all that He has done especially for giving us the greatest freedom of all, His son Jesus Christ!

Who Was Elvis Presley, the Hound Dog?

Elvis Presley had been performing live for a few years when he booked  an appearance on the Steve Allen show. It was 1956 and the mainstream  culture was barely able to contain the budding sexuality that his  music was bursting with. This was before he was popular, but now 20 years later Elvis is so popular (to this day that Elvis Wigs are a huge seller on Halloween.)

It seems that there was a sense of containment that a lot of the  older generations felt towards the new sounds and culture that was  developing. Ed Sullivan agreed to have Elvis perform on his show, but  only allowed him to be filmed from the waist up. It was understood  that showing Elvis’ dance moves and gyrations would mean that Ed  Sullivan no longer had a “family” show.

While it seems to us now a relatively tame dancing movement, pelvic  gyrations, at that time, were considered very taboo, and totally  inappropriate for mass viewing audiences. Parents of teenagers were  often horrified at Elvis’ performance style, and Frank Sinatra called  it, “a rancid smelling aphrodisiac”.

When Elvis scheduled and appearance on the Steve Allen show in July  of 1956, it seemed  yet another great opportunity for publicity and  advancement of his career. He had been performing Hound Dog for  audiences for a while at that point and had perfected his wiggling  hips and dance movements. Just the previous month, he had appeared on  the Milton Berle show. There, he performed “Hound Dog” to screaming  fans and this recording can be found on numerous websites. While the song itself contains no explicit words or anything  particularly groundbreaking musically, it was Elvis’ interpretation of  it that people found offensive.

The lyrics, originally performed as a  blues song by a woman, sing about a lazy good-for-nothing husband who  can’t even put food on the table to feed his family.  In Elvis’  version the words and music are the same, but adding his dancing to  the music and the way his voice bumped and growled over the words  suddenly gave it an electrically sexual connotation.  The line “they said you was high-classed” which in an earlier version meant the promise of a solid husband who was a stand up citizen, could now be  interpreted as in reference to a woman, where high-classed has an immediately sexual meaning.

For his appearance on the Steve Allen show, he participated in a  comedy sketch and then appeared in a suit and tails with his hair  flatter and more slicked back for a rendition of his famous “Hound Dog” song. Steve Allen was a composer and TV personality who often  mocked popular recording artists by reading their lyrics as poems.

There are a lot of popular music songs that will seem nonsense when  read as poems, but when sung, the intention is clear. When he had  Elvis on as a guest performer, he not only had him dress up much more  than was appropriate for his performance, but he had  a live basset  hound rolled out for Elvis to sing to. While some parents and  conservative types were appeased and even entertained by this  scenario, Elvis himself was humiliated. It was clear that the real  version of “Hound Dog” required more of a hipster style of dress, and  a high pompadour which got shaken out by enthusiastic dancing and full gyrations of the hips.
