When Boys Become Heroes

You slouched even further into your chair… Physics was invented, why? you ask yourself as your teacher explained it for the fourth time that day. You already knew how it worked, why it worked, what makes it work but as to WHY you have work is still a bewilderment. Six exercises already… how much homework does that man think we need?

“I think he’ll give you a few more to do” you heard a voice come from behind you.

Wait.. but there weren’t even chairs or… oh.

You looked back only to see a boy, your age, leaning into the window.

Chocolate brown hair… brown puppy-dog eyes… A slight blush crept onto your face but you quickly shook it off. Neither your friends or your teacher noticed that you two were whispering to each other, him outside the class and you inside. The boy smiled sweetly and looked over to the black board, “Gave us the whole of chapter eight to do… heh… see you are as bored as I was” he laughed softly. “And what makes you think that?” you said and folded your arms. He pointed to your leg. Bounce-bounce-bouce-bounce. You both laughed softly. “I’m Kio” he introduced with that serene smile on his lips. “Lynne” you answered softly. He glanced to the black board and then looked back at you, “Catch you during break?” he asked. Before you could even formulate a decent answer he had already vanished. You smiled to yourself. During break you didn’t see him anywhere, even after school… You had to stay late since it was practice trails for athletics but then, just as you were leaving school you spotted him. Looked like he was fighting.. fighting?! You ran over to the secluded part of the school. It was the area, all ruins now, which was part of the school a few years ago but now it was just a part of the ‘No Entry’ section.

As soon as you arrive he spun towards you and grabbed the guy who he was fighting in a headlock. “Oh, hi Lynne” he said smiling brightly. His voice sounded strained, but all he had was a bruise above his left eye. “Kio! Holy Crackers!!” you said but stood rooted on the spot. “Holy Crackers? he repeated confused. The guy who was in a headlock was trying his best to escape. It was actually quite funny to see Kio sit on the guy. The poor guy flailing around.. “This is more addicting than watching a monkey on crack” you said with a smirk on your face. Both of the guys sweatdropped. “Sorry, had to deal with this guy first” Kio apologized and wrestled the guy to the ground, then promptly sat on him. “What did he do?” you said, not sure whether or not to be on his side. “The usual. Bragging about asking a girl out.. dating her.. then dumping her when he’s done with her” he said with the same cheerfulness in his voice… but this time it was also laced with pure disgust.

Your eyes widened a bit. The guy on the ground was the guy in school who you’ve had a crush on!? You blushed a bit, but you had to know.. “Who was.. the girl?” you asked timidly. Kio’s tired eyes shot up to meet yours for a minute. Of course it was you. Your crush was now literally crushed and had passed out. Satisfied, Kio stood up and brushed his hands off on his trousers. It was already quite dark and the moon was casting a slight glow over everything. You were still standing quietly on the spot, you didn’t want Kio to see what you were thinking… feeling. You let out a small giggle and looked up to the moon, a tear falling down your cheek “Oh well, it could’ve been worse” you say and wiped it away. Kio walked over and hugged you tightly, “I’m sorry” he said in that creamy voice of his. “Nah, it’s better this way” you assured and sighed a bit. He suddenly let go of you, turned and -ACHOO!!!

You sweatdropped slightly, “WOW, that was anti-climactic!” you said and laughed.

He sniffed and looked back at you, “Ugh…” he moaned. “You fight like the Blue Knight but you catch a cold in an instant? How does that work?” you said laughing. He sneezed again but smiled, “Oh yea, I can still kick your butt any -ACHOO” his sentence was cut short again. You threw him your jacket and smiled, “I think we’ll postpone our battle for when you can actually finish what you were going to say” you said and giggled. He tried to glare but it came out as a cute puppy-face. You smiled and nodded, “Oh yea, that was scary” you agreed and laughed even louder. He stood still for a moment, “Wha?” was all he could think of to say, but you just smiled, took his hand and led him to the gate of the school. “Thanks for looking out for me” you said when you finally reached the gate. He gave your hand a light squeeze and brought it to his lips, “That’s what I’m here for”.

And so, I’ll stand below your window and yell “I love you” until you answer.

Golf News Wildcard Woods Set For Celtic Clash

I found this news is  good to share with you.

As widely expected Tiger Woods is back in the fold after being selected as one of Corey Pavin’s wildcard picks for the United States Ryder Cup team.

The World No. 1 was one of four picks for the clash at Celtic Manor on October 1-3 along with Stewart Cink, Zach Johnson and Rickie Fowler.

The quartet join automatic qualifiers Phil Mickelson, Jim Furyk, Steve Stricker, Hunter Mahan and cup newcomers Dustin Johnson, Matt Kuchar, Jeff Overton and Bubba Watson.

“I am very pleased to add these four to Team USA,” said Pavin, the 26th U.S. Ryder Cup Captain of his selections.

“I think our team is very good. I think these four players complement those eight very well. That was the goal of these four players. I’m very proud to have Team USA completed assembled now, and I’m looking forward to the matches in three weeks.”

Pavin said his selections “give me a lot of flexibility,” and was not concerned over any criticism made of his choices.

“My job is to put together the team that I feel is the best team and to represent the United States in the Ryder Cup,” said Pavin. “What other people’s opinions are, I cannot control, and I’m not concerned about it. I am just trying to get the best guys together to go over there and win.”

Woods, who missed the 2008 match in Valhalla, Louisville following knee surgery, returns for his sixth cap, but has only once been on a winning side – in Boston in 1999.

The 14-time Major champion has not had a top 10 finish since his fourth place at the US Open in June but in this weekend’s Deutsche Bank Championship in Boston revealed glimpses of a return to form which is credited to his work with coach Sean Foley.

Woods has played in every Ryder Cup session in his five appearances winning 10, halving two and losing 13.

Stricker is expected to become his 12th partner. They had four wins out of four together in the Presidents Cup and were only once taken to the final green.

Meanwhile former Masters champion Johnson returns to the side after making his debut at The K Club in Ireland four years ago.

Cink receives a pick for the third time in four matches, but has not won a tournament since beating Tom Watson in the play-off for The Open last summer and has had only one top-10 finish in the last six months.

Fowler, at 21 the same age as Rory McIlroy, creates history by making it from the Walker Cup to the Ryder Cup in just one year.

He has not lifted a US Tour title yet, but has had three second places and is already up to 33rd in the world.

Rolling Laptop Bags

Rolling Laptop bags solve a lot of problems for the modern traveler. They help to speed of the flow of travel for a weary traveler, and they help the shoulders from having to endure pain and strain on the back. What rolling bags are, are laptop cases that have wheels either on the bottom of the case, or they have a wheel attachment that can be attached to the case.

The most common type of rolling bags, are the ones that are made out of foam type material on the outside. They will have a retractable handle on the top. All the traveler has to do, is to pull the handle up and then roll the wheeled cases on their wheels. There are rolling bags that also are made out of leather. However, if the traveler is moving with a laptop case that is made out of metal, and that looks like the retro-styled brief cases, then the traveler would have to by a metal rack that has handles on top, and wheels at the bottom. All a traveler has to do, is to attach the bag to the rack, harness it in place, and now they’ve created rolling laptop bags for themselves.

The advantages of rolling laptop bags, is that it gives the shoulders and the back of the traveler a break. Depending on the weight of the laptop, cases can get quite heavy. A person might be suffering with back issues anyway, and the case can be full of papers, books, and other items that would make the laptop case very heavy. So when the traveler uses wheeled cases, this can save their backs and shoulders for better health.

Also, travelers use rolling bags for laptop when you are in a hurry. For a lot of people, wheeling a laptop case is a lot more simple that having to lug it around, and having to carry it along with a lot of other bags on their shoulders. So wheeled cases can increase the speed that a person might need, such as in the case of a traveler racing through an airport.

So as we can see, rolling bags to go a long way to save a person’s physical health, and they can increase speed and efficiency. They can also keep the clothes looking more intact. When a person carries too much on their shoulders, the suites and blouses will look frumpy. Using wheeled laptop cases can keep the freshness of the clothes intact, for a neat and professional look. They come in so many colors, shapes and styles. They really are a great investment for the person constantly on the go for work or play.

Welcome to Laptop Designer Bags, inside you will discover an amazing selection of low priced and excellent quality rolling laptop bags.

Talking WITH Toddlers is Different Than Talking AT Infants

Toddlers are ready to be “talked with” rather than “talked at.” The lengthy sentences and questions we surround infants with so they get the overall “speech envelope” of language are not as helpful to language-learning toddlers.

What really helps toddlers is when parents are talking partners rather than “quizzers” (that’s a nicer word than interrogators!) If you really want to encourage word use, reduce the use of direct questions and increase the use of statements.

In my 34 years as a speech-language pathologist working exclusively with children and their parents, most parents have told me that they ask their young children who are not talking yet a lot of questions. Many have told me it is upwards of 80 percent. That’s a lot of questions! I think parents do this hoping they will actually get an answer which will validate their wish that their child will start talking soon. Unfortunately, such excessive use of questioning works against the child’s learning process, and the child is less likely to talk when questioned.

It may seem difficult initially to change all of your questions into statements, but it is possible to do it. For example, instead of asking a toddler, “What do you see?” or, “Do you see that jet?” you can simply state the obvious, “I see a jet way up high in the sky!”

Once you make a full sentence, then systematically reduce it to a phrase and then to a key word–and sometimes right down to the vowel sound from the word or a sound effect. Doing this “filters” the rapid flow of speech so your child gets a chance to grasp what the best word is to match an experience and how to say that word.

Here’s an example using the sentence I wrote above. You will see that each utterance is shorter than the previous one. “I see a jet way up high in the sky!” “That’s a fast jet. Fast jet. Jet! Zzzzzoooooommm!” Pause to wait for an imitation if the child is ready to try.

I call this process of systematically reducing the length of a sentence the “Upside-Down Pyramid” way of talking with young children so they can learn to start talking or to talk better. My ideas are practical and are intended to be used throughout the day during a family’s usual activities and routines. Many parents have indicated that they got results right away as soon as they stopped asking so many questions and learned how to present statements in this new way. When you are ready, you can learn to use this method, too.

A Muse on Technology – Is it a Help Or Hindrance to Growth?

It has become too easy for news media, financial statistical trackers, advertiser’s and experts in their chosen professions to give us detailed, micro managed information at an incredible pace in which we really have no tools or experience to manage in relation to our lives.

In my humble opinion too rapid as it leaves no room to debate and no room for enjoyment. No sooner do we grasp one idea and the movers and shakers set out another 10 which are quickly discussed, refuted and counteract the one we have just spent time considering.

The real problem lies in the fact that these ideas shape the very foundation of our existence and most of us cannot keep up. Today caffeine is good, tomorrow it causes cancer. Eggs are good for you one day and now they cause high cholesterol. Smoking was cool now it is taboo.

Bottled water in yet a mere 5 years later, the goal now is to ban it. This leads me to the idea that high emotional I.Q. today is really about those who can adjust to the rapid changes of information in the market place and not what is scored on a test.

Toys are no exception to this rule either. No sooner does one electronic gadget come into the market, and we are flooded with new technological toys. We’ve experienced 8 track to cassette to records to CD’s and now the IPOD- all the money in which we invest to form collections, quickly disappears with the rapid changes in technology – you no longer can see where you invested your hard earned dollars and that was all in less than thirty years. There goes your hard, earned money but more importantly, it is impossible to keep up.

VHS – DVD’s – Blue Ray – each needing new machines, and the equipment you own has not even begun to wear out. Computers, televisions, automobiles, the impact is financially devastating to each of us. Credit cards maxed out, savings lost through the stock market, house foreclosures, and job elimination is where we end up. This is the reality of technology and its effect on life. You can see the challenge and this is what we each must now examine for our self.

It begs the question of, What is quality of life? What is it we really want? What is it that will make us happy? What is it we really need for our families, relationships, spouses, or jobs?

We know we are not fairing so well when the divorce rate is now between 40-50% and our alcoholism, gambling, and drug stats are not that much better. By taking the time to answer these important life questions, we may start to lift the weight of stress and depression resting on most of our shoulders.

So is technology a hindrance to growth or does it push us to become more by offering us more? This is not an easy question because in many cases Technology has become a trade off for other areas. Technology has made writing essays, homework assignments, magazine articles, books, business reports, sales presentation all much easier to accomplish. Rules of editing, grammar, spelling, and punctuation can easily be repaired by any software program and publishing and spreading information, whether good or bad, is quick today due to the internet.

We can all look like geniuses by the stroke of a key on our keyboards. We appear to all be in an equal playing field, if we choose to utilize the tools. The flip side to this is don’t we need to understand the basics of grammar, style, editing in order to deliver our best works? Don’t we need to know the fundamentals of math and science to become great Doctors and Scientists?

Isn’t it important for our Brain to strengthen through education, practice, trial and error? Don’t short cuts lead to poor quality of workmanship? Doesn’t cheap labor produce cheap products, which don’t even last a year before they disappear from your environment? Are you not tired of the overselling of ad campaigns that promise you a lot but delivers little? Take this and you will look 20 years younger.

We can say technology provides us from a relief of physical strains. We no longer tend to the fields with horse and plough. We no longer have to hang our wash out to dry. We no longer have to wash the dishes. Ah yes, life does seem simpler doesn’t it? Or does it?

Isn’t our food being made in China? Is this good? Aren’t we all becoming overweight due to lack of physical activity? Is this good? Can we financially afford to put one more piece of technology on our credit card? Do these “things” increase our life span? Do we have too much time on our hands to play computer games, chat in chat rooms, watch reality shows, or, do we have none as we are working too hard to pay for all these toys? Do we even have time to think or have we become robotic in our tasks?

Even the skill for developing the mental capacity to process (the brain) massive amounts of information is not required as we have technological tools to rely on for memory, mathematical equations, and with the internet, information is readily at our fingertips so we no longer even have to rely on our memory.

Difficult trade-offs, and much due to the real question of – to the moon or not to the moon! So you can see answering the question is technology good for our growth is a difficult one indeed.

I believe technology can be good for growth when we incorporate, strong physical, mental, family, relationship, and most importantly, financial goals in our life utilizing the tools of technology as a mechanism of assisting us in a more peaceful balance.

If we learn to understand technology is just a means for making life simpler then we can choose, by not only reflecting back and in the present, but also reflecting on the future, protecting us from falling into the trap of following the trends. Allowing us to orchestrate the color of our canvas as to what we choose it to be.

With a clear focus on health, wellness, spirituality, nutrition, listening to our own inner cues, we stand a better chance of longevity. With a clear focus on our professional career we can focus our finances towards the development of skills which will enhance our earning potential. With a clear focus on family and relationships we will get an understanding of their needs and wants which we can work into our time restraints and financial budgets.

Divorce is expensive. Weight loss programs are expensive. Gambling and alcohol addictions are expensive. Replacing a car every four years is expensive. Keeping up with the latest computer gadgets and software programs is expensive.

When we take the time to reflect on our growth, we get a clearer understanding of what our real needs are and thus can prevent some costly errors. So, in the end, technology doesn’t hurt growth, but without a plan and a clear understanding of ourselves, it sure hinders it!

Discovery about Sun Temple in Konark Orissa

Have you ever heard an ancient Hindu temple built in the name of the sun god? And it is the Sun Temple in Konark, Orissa, whose shape likes giant chariot and are at the age of 13th- century. Many people also know the temple because of its exquisite stone carvings that cover its interiors and exteriors.

Located 35 Km North of Puri, the Sun Temple is the most popular tourist destination in Orissa. People from across the world, travel to India just to get a glimpse of this magnificent World Heritage Site.

What to See

The Sun Temple in Konark was built in the form of a huge chariot for the sun god, Surya. It has 12 pairs of stone-carved wheels and seven galloping horses. Of these seven horses only one remains intact today.

The temple architecture of Sun Temple symbolizes the passage of time which according to Hindus is under the control of sun god. The seven horses, which pull the temple towards the East into the dawn, represent days of a week; the twelve pairs of wheels, represent twelve months of a year whereas the eight spokes in each of the wheels symbolize the eight stages of a woman’s day.

The main entrance of the temple is situated in front of the ‘hall of offering’ also known as the Bhogamandapa. This hall was used for ritual dance performances in ancient times. You will notice sculptures of musicians and dancers intrinsically carved on the walls of this hall.

The roof of the Sun Temple has three tiers covered in statues of musicians and dancers offering prayer to the sun god. A Shiva Nataraja sculpture in the posture of a cosmic dance can be seen on the bottom of the platform. Just beyond the porch you will find a double staircase that leads to a shrine. The shrine contains the statue of the sun god which is a beautifully carved green chlorite stone sculpture. This sculpture is one of the masterpieces of Konarak Sun Temple. The sculpture of lord Surya is accompanied by the charioteer, Aruna, at his feet. From here you can climb down to the remains of the inner of the temple, where the deity was originally enshrined.

Other sculptures decorating the Sun temple’s exterior wall include animals, floral patterns, mythical beasts and aquatic monsters. The twelve pairs of giant wheels are beautifully carved. Each of the eight spokes of these wheels is decorated with figurative carvings.
